David holds 763 shares in BHP which are presently selling for $44.90.

How much will David receive when the dividend is paid?

Answer.763 × $1.39 = $1,060.57.

Dividend yield 6. Telstra has just announced that it will pay a dividend of 8c per share. On the day of that announcement, the price of one Telstra share was $3.21.

What is the dividend yield on Telstra's shares on that date?

Answer.Yield = 2.5%.
  7. On 15 November 2019, Soul Pattinson P/L paid a dividend of 34c per share. At that time, its shares were selling at $22.26.

On 20 November 2020, the Company paid a dividend of 35c per share and, on that date, the share price was $27.75.

Compare the divided yields for the Company on the two dates when dividends were paid.

Answer.The 2019 yield was 1.53%
The 2020 yield was 1.26%.
So the yield has decreased but you receive more cash.
  8. Hughey bought 500 shares at $2.25 per share. He was still holding the shares 8 months later when they were then worth $3.00 per share.

At that time, Hughey received a dividend paid at the rate of $0.17 per share.

Answer.Hughey's dividend yield is 7.6%.
